Jean Hewitt

Jean Hewitt MSc, MRICS, MBIFM, NRAC,

Jean is an experienced access and inclusive environments consultant, accredited with both the National Register of Access Consultants (NRAC) and the Inclusive Environments Consultancy register. She is a member of the NRAC’s Advisory Group and represents the NRAC on the British Standards Institute Committee that reviews standards on access to buildings. A chartered Surveyor (Facilities Management) by background, Jean has specialised in access and egress for disabled people for over ten years.

Jean has been an accredited fire risk assessor since 2006 and has developed her keen interest in fire safety arrangements for disabled people and recently completed post graduate research in the area of safe carry down arrangements. (See Health, Safety and Fire page)

In addition to auditing and design appraising many public and commercial environments, Jean has undertaken research into pan disability access to colleges on behalf of the Learning and Skills Development Agency, and into sensory access (sight, hearing and autism) to higher education environments for the Equalities Challenge Unit. Work is undertaken throughout the UK and overseas and clients are spread across the public, private and voluntary sectors. As a qualified trainer in Disability Equality and Awareness and inclusive design, Jean delivers a range of workshops to private, public and voluntary sector clients – please see “Training” page for further details.

Jean was Consultant Editor and contributing author to the Croner CCH publication: "Access and Inclusion - A Management Guide" and has contributed many special reports and articles to established facility management and health and safety guides.
